The party’s over, back to work! I hope you are all excited because it’s 2012, a year that has the potential for greatness!!! As I look back to prior years I have seldom felt as optimistic as I do today. The confluence of technology has expanded the opportunity for any individual to succeed in their respective niche. The opportunity to improve is endless, and if you don’t have a the right skills, learn new ones. Free courses at MIT, Standford and companies like Codeacademy, Udemy, Lynda allow anyone to expand their knowledge base. In addition to theses educational resources there are now over 100 accelerators in the US alone, most with amazing mentors who have launched successful companies and are eager to give back.
I’m pumped to get the year rolling. I’ve signed up for the codeacademy code year, and I’m planning to read more white papers, write more blogs, and maybe even take a course or two….I think I can accomplish these goals because I’ve got some good momentum going from last year.
2011 was exceptional for personal growth. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work in a small office and gained a ton of knowledge through hands-on experience. It’s been a blast working with and learning from entrepreneurs, tech wizards, and industry experts. However, the most significant growth came from working alongside the HCV team. I feel so lucky to have mentors with such a deep understanding of entrepreneurship and early stage investing, who are willing to share their insight on both a professional and personal level.
While I’m very appreciative of the past it’s the what lies ahead that makes me so excited. I can feel the momentum pick up, I feel more confident about my understanding of technology and entrepreneurship and can add more value to the entrepreneurial ecosystem. I will continue to learn, and although I’m sure I will make mistakes, I hope to make more good decisions and help more entrepreneurs realize their dreams than I did in 2011. I’ve got the first 3,000hrs of my 10,000hrs under my belt and I look forward to spending the next 3,000 with all of you.
See you all soon.
Awesome Rob. Once you’ve learned how to code, come down the FullContact offices. I’m sure Dan will be able to put you to work
Haha, looking forward to it!!
How many more blog posts are we going to see in 2012? Every day like Fred Wilson and Feld?
My goal is 3 per month… 4 if I get on a roll. Not at the Fred Wilson, Brad Feld level just yet.
yeah, that rate is insane. I’m going to try to pick it up this year too. One trick i’ve done in the past is to write a blog post about any topic that i’ve had multiple discussions/arguments about. This is a good indicator of what you’re interested in. I’m going to give that a go for a bit and see what happens.
